Five Drivers Pass their test - in a Steamroller
The five people in the picture all passed their driving tests the hard way yesterday-in this twelve-ton steam
roller.
One by one they drove the forty - year - old machine up and down country lanes in the village of Draycott in the
Clay Staffordshire, with a Transport Ministry examiner perched on the side. Then after the five half-hour tests they recieved their "pass" certificates. The drivers all belong to the Burton and District Vintage Transport Protection Society. The ones pictured on the steam roller are left to right : Malcom Whiteland, Eric Brown and Brian Nicholson.
Standing are Eric's wife Sue and David Hallam who owns the machine. They needed Group 4 licences to drive steamrollers to traction engine rallies.
